Story of the Day

My last day of skiing before heading on towards home. Despite it being Saturday, I risked the queues at Park City and attempted to ski on all of the open lifts, providing quite a variety of skiing.

First Time and Pay Day were easy to knock off early in the day. Next was Eagle to King Consolidated where I took a number of runs before heading higher on Silverlode.

After a couple of runs off Silverlode, the first challenging run of the day was Crescent and Waterfall down to the base area.

Ski Team gave me a choice of Willy's Run or Silver King. I took the slightly easier option of Silver King and then Pay Day and Bonanza back towards the top of the mountain.

McConkey's was interesting. Riding the lift, I could see a groomed track down the centre of the bowl, and several people sliding an awfully long way. I decided to stay in the ungroomed area of the bowl.
Riding the same lift again, I heard one of the ski patrol commenting how stupid it was to groom such a steep slope and they only did it "because they could".

After a second run from McConkey's, this time along the rim of the bowl, it was time for an early lunch at Mid-Mountain before taking Pioneer over to Jupiter for probably the most challenging run of the day, the steep run funnelling down into Portuguese Gap.

Keystone off Thaynes was a delightful run. Not groomed, but not mogulled and not too steep. I enjoyed it so much that I repeated it before skiing further down Thaynes Canyon to knock-off Motherlode.

This meant that I had skied all the lifts on the backside and now only needed to hit Town amd Three Kings to complete the set. Before skiing all the way down to the base, I took one additional run from Bonanza.

After Town Lift I took one more run down Waterfall before a simple run from Three Kings finished the day.

By the time I finished it had been a pretty long day. On the way back to my hotel, I visited the Great Salt Lake for the first time in winter.
